Spicey
Hello, I'm Spicey, and I've called The NZ Cat Foundation home for more than 12 years.
My story began in a place no cat should ever have to live - a rubbish dump. I was rescued alongside three other cats, and together we were given the chance at a completely different life. Two of my friends found wonderful forever homes, while my best friend Scarlett and I were both adopted too... but something didn't feel quite right. You see, we had already fallen in love with life at the sanctuary.
When our adoptions didn't work out, we both found our way back to the place where we truly belonged. This wasn't just somewhere to stay - it had become our home, filled with familiar faces, caring volunteers, sunny spots to nap, and plenty of feline friends.
Scarlett and I spent many happy years together here. Sadly, she has since crossed the Rainbow Bridge, and I miss my dear friend every day. Thankfully, the wonderful people at the sanctuary have made sure I've never felt alone.
About a year ago, life threw me another challenge when I started having epileptic seizures. It was a little scary, but I'm in the very best hands. Our wonderful sanctuary vet looks after me closely, and thanks to my daily medication I'm doing really well.
These days, I've become something of a celebrity among the volunteers. I'm always first in line for gentle pats, tasty treats, and my very own special bowl of food. I certainly know how to make sure everyone remembers me!
As one of the sanctuary's longest residents, I've watched hundreds of cats come and go, seeing nervous newcomers blossom before heading off to loving families of their own. While many cats dream of finding a forever home, I've already found mine right here.
I'm a proud tortoiseshell girl with a big personality, an even bigger heart, and a whole team of humans who love me just as I am. I may have started life in a dump, but today I'm surrounded by kindness, comfort, and people who make every day feel special. And honestly? I wouldn't have it any other way.
