Our Sanctuary

Tucked away on 12 peaceful acres in Huapai, our sanctuary is a place of second chances.

Wherever we can, we find friendly cats and kittens the loving homes they deserve. Timid cats who can't settle with people are gently returned to where they came from, when it's safe and the owner agrees.

But some cats have nowhere else to go. Too old, too sick, or too frightened to be rehomed, they find their forever home with us - at our no-kill sanctuary, known with great affection as "The Pussy Palace."

Set amongst a quiet olive grove with secure predator-proof fencing, it's a place where cats can feel sunshine on their fur and grass under their paws, safe at last.

As our family has grown, so has the sanctuary. We've created dedicated spaces for cats with special needs - from managed diets to the frail and chronically unwell - and our own on-site veterinary hospital means help is always close at hand, so every cat gets exactly the care they need.

Today, more than 200 cats call our sanctuary home - the elderly, the overlooked, and the ones nobody else would take. For the rest of their days, they'll never be alone, or unwanted, again.

Caesar’s Palace Caesar's Palace is home to a giant 9kg Arabian Mau mix. Caesar arrived in New Zealand from the Middle East in 2017 and has been entertaining people ever since. While he considers himself a mighty hunter, his eyesight doesn't always cooperate, making his efforts more amusing than successful. Caesar is firmly of the opinion that he should be the only cat in the world - he absolutely hates other cats, so feline friendships are definitely not on his agenda.

Pensioner Palace 1 & 2 are home to cats awaiting adoption or foster care, as well as those who prefer a quieter life away from the main sanctuary. Inside, you'll find all the comforts of a cosy lounge room, complete with comfy beds, sunny spots, and plenty of opportunities for serious napping. Each palace also has its own secure outdoor area where residents can enjoy fresh air, bird-watching, and keeping an eye on the world.

Our Specialist Diet areas Our Specialist Diet Areas are home to cats with specific nutritional needs, including urinary and gastrointestinal diets. With indoor and outdoor spaces, residents can relax, explore, and enjoy sanctuary life while receiving the care and nutrition they require.

The Penthouse The Penthouse was built in 2025 to provide a safe haven for 12 cats rescued from a severe hoarding situation. Working alongside the SPCA, we provided these cats with a second chance, and today it serves as their permanent home where they can live in safety, comfort, and receive the care they need.

Our purpose-built veterinary hospital allows cats to receive high-quality care without leaving the sanctuary. Led by our veterinarian, Elsa, it provides everything from routine health care to diagnostics and medical treatment, reducing stress for our cats while enabling faster intervention and ongoing monitoring.

The Main Sanctuary is home to more than 150 cats living together in a remarkably harmonious environment. With spacious indoor and outdoor areas, olive trees for climbing and shade, and plenty of places to relax, it offers cats the freedom, comfort, and companionship they need to thrive. Dedicated care areas also provide support for cats requiring medical treatment, recovery, or extra assistance.

Our Courtyard Cats are free-roaming residents who prefer life outside the main sanctuary. With feeding stations throughout the grounds and daily care from our team, they enjoy the freedom of the farm while remaining an important part of our sanctuary family.
