Foster

Complete our Foster Application Form and help provide a safe, loving temporary home for a cat in need. Foster homes must be based in the Auckland region.

Fostering is a rewarding way to make a real difference in a cat’s life. Our foster families provide love, care, patience, and a safe home environment where cats can learn routines, boundaries, and what it’s like to be part of a family. Whether you’re new to fostering or experienced, our dedicated foster coordinator is there to provide guidance, support, and advice every step of the way.

Our foster family needs to have:

  • A spare room

  • Their own transport (to see our vet in Huapai)

  • Time to spend with the cat/kitten to help socialise it

  • Love and patience

We will provide:

  • Food

  • Litter box and litter

  • Bedding

  • Cage if necessary

  • All vet costs

Permanent foster homes

Some of our cats are elderly or have ongoing medical conditions that can make it harder for them to find permanent homes. These loving cats still deserve the comfort, security, and companionship of a caring home environment, which is why we offer a permanent foster programme.

For cats in permanent foster care, The NZ Cat Foundation covers the cost of approved veterinary treatment, so you can provide them with love and care without the worry of ongoing vet expenses. Some cats may require regular medication or monitoring for conditions such as diabetes, thyroid issues, or kidney disease, so permanent fosters need to be comfortable administering medication and taking cats to vet appointments when needed.

If you would like to give one of these special cats a safe and loving forever foster home, please complete our Permanent Foster Application Form.
