Champagne
Hello, darling. I'm Champagne... although around the sanctuary I was much better known as the Lady of the Manor.
My story began in a rather unusual place. As a tiny kitten, I was found living amongst piles of wood chips at a garden centre. It might sound adventurous, but it wasn't very good for me. I had eaten far too many wood chips, and they caused me to develop a condition called mega colon.
Those first few months weren't easy. I needed enemas every couple of days, along with all sorts of things mixed into my food - lactulose, psyllium husks, probiotics, and medication to help my tummy work the way it should. The wonderful people looking after me never gave up, even when progress was painfully slow.
Then, on New Year's Eve, something extraordinary happened. After three long months, I finally did my very first poo all by myself... and let's just say it was unforgettable! Measuring an impressive 30 centimetres long, it was quite the celebration. I don't think anyone has ever been so excited about a cat going to the toilet!
Through it all, I never stopped purring. Life was too precious to waste being grumpy, and besides, everyone told me I sounded like a tiny jaguar whenever I was happy.
As I grew up, I left those difficult days behind and embraced my new role as the Queen of Goose Creek. It was a title I wore with pride. I spent my days ruling my kingdom with grace, accepting admiration from my loyal subjects, and reminding everyone that even the smallest kitten can have the biggest spirit.
Although my time at the sanctuary has come to an end, I know I'm still remembered with smiles, love, and perhaps the occasional story about that very memorable New Year's Eve.
Not every queen is born in a palace. Some of us begin life in a pile of wood chips... and still end up ruling the world.
