Anne Batley Burton is a person of strange contrasts. She moves in the heady world of Champagne country, counts and countesses, vintners and influential people.

And yet she uses this position to make a meaningful difference for animals by utilising her contacts and her influence to raise valuable funds for organisations such as WSPA, the SPCA and Animal Asia. All of these organisations owe a considerable debt of gratitude to Anne Batley Burton, whose single efforts have accounted for tens of thousands of valuable dollars to be used for the animals.

However, there is another side to this amazing woman. For from the heady heights of the social scene there exists the dark and lonely world of abandoned cats who group together in colonies and who rely on dedicated people to care for them in the dead of night. Anne Batley Burton is one of these carers who feed, provide bedding and shelter, veterinary care and individual treatment of the sick and aged.

For both of these attributes we recognise this remarkable animal welfarist with the Assisi Award.
